Exhibition

The Icelandic artist Dominique Ambroise Ibsen opened her exhibition Shedding in the gallery Carte Blanche in Beijing on May 6. The exhibition is curated by Prof. GU Zhenqing. In his text about the exhibition, he writes:

All things shed in order to be renewed. Vitality arises from transformation - at once a law of nature and a process of introspection and transcendence. Only by relinquishing attachments can one arrive at a lucid state of being.  …  Dominique Ambroise Ibsen graduated from York University in Toronto. As the spouse of a diplomat, she has spent much of her life moving across countries. From the expansive green terrains of Iceland and continental Europe to the humid jungles and the fleeting vistas of Southeast Asia, and the natural landscapes of Beijing - these experiences have been distilled into her inner world. Through the language of verdancy, she translates these transnational memories and lived experiences onto canvas as an ongoing practice of release and renewal. Her work is not a mere representation of landscape, but a synthesis of external nature and inner spiritual imagery - echoing the principle articulated by the Tang dynasty painter Zhang Zao: "Learn from nature outwardly, derive from the heart inwardly."   Amid grasses and trees, the artist attains clarity; through the passage of time, she finds ease. Each transformation in life is rendered into flourishing green and renewed vitality.

The exhibition Shedding is open until June 18 at Carte Blanche, Winland IFC, 7 Finance Street, Beijing
